Tuckers undertake major redevelopment of their Geelong West facility.
Tuckers Funeral & Bereavement Service has been established since 1883 and in Geelong at their historical Geelong West site since 1925. This is one of the reasons why Tuckers is a household name within the Geelong region. And whilst there will be a major overhaul of the Geelong West facilities, Tuckers’ strength has and will remain the quality, ongoing development and skills of their staff.
For generations this Company has provided professionalism and care to many people which is why Tuckers is the choice of funeral provider for so many local and regional families. Employing 35 local staff Tuckers are the best in the business and can be relied upon to deliver a service exactly how the family would like it to be. The staff are also highly skilled and experienced in the cultural needs of the community and can be relied upon to understand and assist in all aspects of a particular traditional service. Standing the test of time, their experienced staff can guide you through and suggest ways to make this time a very special and memorable one for you and your family members.
The renovations and development of the Geelong West site is focusing on environmental resourcefulness and the impact it will have in the Community. The building has been sensitively designed and constructed with initiatives like; under floor insulation batts, additional ceiling and wall insulation, double glazed windows, solar power system feeding in to the grid, planning and installation of water tanks (at all three Chapel sites) that will enable garden maintenance using non potable water and other environmentally sensitive features.
The new administration facility is built with a focus on disabled usage and access. A ramp with a push button automatic door opener for the disabled, low service counter area to enable the elderly to be seated whilst being served or to enable wheel chair service, disabled bathroom facilities and disabled parking are all a part of the new administration facilities.
A Company that has been around for as long as Tuckers understands their responsibility to the heritage of their area. Les Cole spent 60 years developing this Company and his son Trevor and grandsons Brendan and Gavin are building on the Company’s heritage and history but also are focussed on maintaining and restoring the building’s heritage. The current administration area is in fact the original Funeral Chapel in Hope St. This will be restored back to its original character and again be used for smaller or private funerals, viewings and a new catering area. This will enable additional use of the Geelong West site as there will be a funeral Chapel on each side of the road and they will be able to be used concurrently.
But building construction is just the start. Tuckers is planning to be at the leading edge of environmental funeral care and service and is researching and developing new initiatives in the industry. This project will put them in a very good position to offer local and regional families all of their funeral options, be professionally informed and have their individual needs met at the highest standard. Tuckers can now offer environmental and eco funeral services with options relating to green, natural or eco funeral care and service. They are also introducing environmentally sensitive products, coffin, bio degradable urns and other options that reduce the carbon footprint of a funeral service.
Vehicles are another area where the environment must be considered. Tuckers have already moved to diesel transfer vehicles and have trialled some gas vehicles. Plans are afoot to eventually move some of the fleet towards hybrid vehicles for the future. Tuckers will of course maintain their current vintage vehicle fleet which can be regularly seen around Geelong and are often used to support historical events throughout the year.
Tuckers are always looking at opportunities in the funeral industry to offset carbon costs to create a neutral or minimised carbon footprint. But at its core, Tuckers’ new direction is all about its service to the community and its dedication to its staff and clients, something that has remained unchanged since its humble beginnings.

Sponsorship of the Geelong Croquet Association
A letter of appreciation
Dear Tania,
Thank you so much for giving us your time last Tuesday to come and watch some of the play of our Open Tournament and the presenting of the trophies. It was much appreciated by the winners, the runners-up and members of the Association.
It certainly helped to bring Tucker's to those present and make them aware of your continued generous sponsorship.
With kindest regards,
Roger Colvin
