The Honourable Gordon Scholes AO

1931 – 2018

A State Memorial Service for the Honourable Gordon Scholes AO will take place at 11.00 am on Tuesday 18 December 2018 at Tuckers Chapel, Barrabool Hills Centre, 4-32 Province Boulevard, Highton, Victoria.

Mr Scholes was Minister for Territories from 1984 to 1987, Minister for Defence from 1983 to 1984 and Speaker of the House of Representatives from 1975 to 1976. He represented the Federal Seat of Corio in the House of Representatives from 1967 to 1993. Mr Scholes was appointed an Officer of the Order of Australia in 1993 for service to Australia.

Family, friends, representatives of organisations and members of the public are welcome to attend the State Memorial. There will be reserved seating for those on the Commonwealth Table of Precedence, the immediate family and close family friends. All other seating will be in order of arrival until the venue reaches capacity.

Doors will open at 10.00 am. All guests are kindly requested to be seated by 10.30 am. Ushers will be on hand to assist with seating.

  2. He was a great politician and a great man. My mum (Mary McInytre, who unfortunately passed away 3 years ago at the age of 92) was a great admirer of Gordon. She had actually met him on several occasions at meetings. I am sorry that I cannot attend, due to previous commitments, but wish the whole family well. Take care and know he was well regarded.
