Tributes

  1. I just found a picture of Rika as a young girl in the belongings of my mother who also died in March 2022 at the age of 95. Her mother (and my grandmother) was Anna de Rooy. They must have been nieces. My mother had written on the back :
“Rika de Rooy dochter van Bert en Lucia de Rooij 1950 geemigreerd naar Australie.”

  2. To me Rika was always Tante Rika, a lady who befriended my mother Netty, when she was a new arrival in Geelong,Australia in 1957.
Tante Rika was an important part of my life, never one to mince words and very good at showing me the right way to behave. I know she was my mother’s best friend. After Netty died, Tante Rika was the link to her past and I enjoyed many trips to Highton to reminisce and learn news of Rika’s own family. I was pleased that Tante Rika came to my wedding in 1992. I know the last few years had been challenging for Rika. I am just very grateful to have been a part of her life. I will treasure those memories. I extend my deepest sympathy to Fred and Richard and their families. Always in my heart.

  3. Circumstance in this lifetime meant I spent little time with Tante Rika, but the time we did get together in her home as adults many years ago was very personal and filled an empty space I had had in my heart. She was welcoming and supportive, giving understanding to some of the circumstances. The time we spent together, getting to know each other as loving individuals was warm and enjoyable and we bonded over creative interests. I am forever grateful for that time and am sorry we did not see each other more. Tante Rika is often in my heart and thoughts as she had left an indelible mark on me.
With great appreciation and deep love she will never be forgotten. A beautiful Soul on a magic journey 💛🌼

  4. It was with a sad heart that we heard of the passing of Tante Rika. We pass on our condolences to all her family and friends. She was a strong woman who aged well. We were so happy to be able to reconnect with her of late and kept in touch by phone as we were unable to visit her again due to covid restrictions. She will be missed. Barry and Jan de Rooy.
