For more than 140 years, Tuckers Funeral & Bereavement Service has been part of Geelong's fabric, guiding local families through life's most difficult moments. Here, our experienced funeral directors answer some of the most common questions we encounter.
Most funerals are held within a week of passing. However, we can work to your timeline. We appreciate other factors may influence the timing of the service, such as those travelling from out of town. We can care for your loved one until you’re ready.
Yes, you can. We honour every story and encourage families to personalise the service to represent the personality and values of their loved one. From music and flowers to the type of service, we’re here to help you say goodbye in whatever way feels most appropriate for you and your family.
Most of our locations have an on-site chapel which you’re welcome to use – the cost is included in our fee. However, you do not need to hold the service in our chapel. We have organised services in churches, parks, beaches and a wide range of alternative venues. We’ll work with you to plan a funeral that reflects your loved one's wishes.
At most of our locations, services can be live-streamed for those who cannot attend in person on the day. We will also provide you with a link to a private online archive so you can rewatch it if you wish.
Funeral costs vary depending on your choices such as the service type, casket, flowers and more. Your funeral director will explain each option and provide a clear cost estimate. You can also view our pricing in advance.
We take the time to understand your preferences and can work with local religious or cultural leaders to help ensure the service reflects your traditions.
If available, it can help to bring personal details, a recent photograph, and any prepaid plan documents. You’re also welcome to bring someone for support.
For many people, a viewing can offer comfort and clarity. Seeing your loved one can support acceptance, provide a space to say personal goodbyes and help you begin processing your grief.
It’s common for families to feel differently. We can talk through everyone’s concerns, suggest options that honour each person’s needs and help find an approach that feels respectful and balanced for all.
With gentle guidance and clear explanations, a viewing can help children understand and say goodbye. We’re here to support you in preparing them beforehand.
Feeling uncertain is completely natural. We’ll talk through what to expect, answer any questions and ensure you feel supported. You can take things at your own pace and decide what feels right for you.
Viewings are flexible and can be as short or as long as you need. You’re welcome to take private time with your loved one; we can arrange quiet moments just for you whenever you wish.
We aim to keep the space calm and comfortable. While smaller groups work best, we’ll discuss your needs and help plan a setting that allows everyone important to you to share the experience meaningfully.
A burial places your loved one in a chosen gravesite, while cremation transforms their remains into ashes. Both options offer meaningful ways to honour their life and reflect personal, cultural or family preferences.
You don’t need to decide alone. We’ll explain each option, answer your questions and help you choose what feels most authentic and comforting for your family’s values and your loved one’s wishes.
You can incorporate music, readings, cultural traditions, personal items or symbolic moments to create a ceremony that genuinely reflects your loved one’s story, no matter which option you choose.
We’ll guide you through each step at a pace that feels manageable, helping you make thoughtful decisions when you’re ready.
We work with cemeteries, crematoriums and memorial locations across Geelong and can help you choose a setting that aligns with your preferences, traditions and your loved one’s wishes.
After the service, you may choose a memorial site, scatter ashes somewhere meaningful or organise an ongoing remembrance. We’ll support you through these decisions and help you find what feels right.
A memorial video is a way to share memories visually during the service or wake. It is often created as a slideshow or short video and may include photographs, video clips, music, quotes or personal messages. It is there to reflect the person’s life in a way that feels personal and true to them.
Many families ask relatives and friends to send through a small selection of their favourite photos, videos or stories. This can be done by email, text message or through a shared online folder. Starting with a few key moments often makes the process feel easier.
There are many simple tools that can help you create a slideshow or video, including free options. If you would like support, your funeral director can point you in the right direction and help you choose an option that works for the service.
Only people you share the link with will be able to access the stream. The service is not publicly searchable or available.

Once your loved one returns, we coordinate their transfer into our care and guide you through the next steps, including planning the funeral or memorial service that feels right for your family.
A gathering offers time to share memories, support one another and honour your loved one in a more relaxed setting. Many families find it helps them connect, reflect and begin healing together.
Not at all. A reception is entirely optional. Some families value the time together, while others prefer a quieter farewell. We’ll support the choice that feels most comfortable and meaningful for you.
You can hold a gathering at a home, community hall, function room, club or local venue. We’ll organise bookings, catering and logistics so the day is seamless and stress-free.
Gatherings can be whatever feels right, whether that's formal, casual or celebratory. Many families choose a relaxed atmosphere with music, stories and personal touches to reflect their loved one’s personality and spirit.
