Tuckers Funeral and Bereavement Service offers aged care homes across the region a rare and beautiful opportunity: the chance to experience Horse Therapy. Two gentle horses, accompanied by their skilled handlers, step quietly into their courtyards—into the residents’ world.
Wherever the horses go, laughter, joy, and warmth follows. It is remarkable to witness the deep and intuitive bond that can exist between humans and horses. These powerful yet perceptive animals seem to understand the moment, allowing residents to connect in their own way—welcoming pats, scratches, conversations, and of course, a carrot or two. As Sir Winston Churchill famously said, “There is something about the outside of a horse that is good for the inside of a man.”
For some residents, especially those who once cared for horses, the visit unlocks treasured memories, faces light up, stories resurface, and emotions flow freely. Others, who often choose not to take part in social activities, are inspired to get dressed, leave their room and join in. The joy and connection on the faces is unforgettable. One resident, after mustering the courage to pat a horse for the very first time, exclaimed, “God knew what he was doing when he created the horse!”
